Welcome to English II Honors! This class is a world literature course designed to help students look at the world through a critical lens. A majority of the course focuses on nonfiction texts in the hope that this will make the curriculum more relevant to students’ lives and, ultimately, more engaging. We will continue developing students’ concrete skills (expression of ideas, standard English conventions, words in context, and command of evidence), but the overarching goal of this course is that students actually apply those skills to the world around them in meaningful ways by personally defining “critical consciousness” and using their voices to effect the change they want to see in the world. It is my hope that all students, parents, guardians, and myself will work together to reach these goals for a successful year!
In order to proactively prepare for our first unit, please read Antigone by Sophocles and complete the summary assignment. The full text and background information is attached. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
